This week's reading was done on The Avian Tarot by Brittany Lyn Batchelder. As a lover of Tarot and birds, I adore this deck. It is both a Tarot deck and an oracle of Birds, with each bird having interesting connections to the traditional meaning of the cards. This kind of deck has often been done in a questionable way with birds as cartoon-like figures participating in human activities. I love science and birds just as much as I love Tarot and magic; and because of that, I greatly appreciate The Avian Tarot. Just- fantastic work, art, and research. I shuffled up the birds and asked for a reading for someone who will see this post. It is for a person who feels like the world is crumbling around them. Read on and see if it's for you or someone that you know.
This week's reading begins with the III of Cups/Pigeon. Pigeons live in groups called 'flocks', and if this is your reading it is a good idea to spend some time with your friends. The III of Cups is the card of friendship, gathering and cooperation. It is about joining together with your community to enjoy life. Very often, those who flock together are able to make a difference in the larger world. Friendship, community, and joining forces has a lot of power. Other times, it is good to just take a night off and see your people.
The Two of Pentacles/Tinamou Bird comes up next. You have a lot going on right now- you are juggling a lot. You are trying to keep your head above the water and keep a lot of balls up in the air at the same time. Just like the Tinamou bird, you have little time for conflict and will use your skills to avoid issues. The Tinamou bird lives on the ground, though they are able to fly. Right now, it is important to stay grounded and rooted to the earth. You have to keep up the dance and not lose your focus on your work and responsibilities.
The Magician/Crow appears next, showing you as a wise, cunning, and resourceful person. Like the Crow, you can think around corners and find solutions to any problem that comes your way. It is important to know when to take opportunities and work with them to create something new. You are able to find ways to use your mind to solve any puzzle. This is a card of opportunity and willpower. Knowing what you want and then finding a way to make it happen. If this is your reading, it is important to find the things that you have control over.
The key to the reading is The Tower/Goldfinch. Sometimes, the world around you falls apart. Things that you thought you knew and understood are suddenly in question. You are not sure what is going to happen or what to believe in anymore. All that you have known is changing. You may feel as though everything is collapsing. So, what do you do? The Goldfinch has found a way to expand its territory in response to climate change. When the world changes, what can you do but adapt and find a new way?
Here's what I see. If this is your reading, you feel like the world is crumbling around you. You are upset and shocked- not sure what to do or how to approach life right now. No amount of being upset will stop the crumbling, so- what do you do? First- there is a lot of happiness to be had in the world around you. Gathering with a few friends can remind you that not everything has fallen apart and changed. Get together with people you enjoy being with and don't let the world changing get you down. The Tower as the key says- sometimes everything falls apart. What is created will eventually be destroyed. Death is implied in birth. You have to keep all of the practical things going in your life; you have to keep juggling. It may feel like a performance some days; your heart may not always be in it. But it's important to keep moving. You have goals in your life that you want to accomplish; magician dreams to make happen. Don't lose track of your dreams. If you do, there won't be anything left to build once the dust from the Tower settles. In short- everything is crashing, and it's not done yet. It's only just started. You can't stop living your life in the meantime. Keep moving, gathering with kind people, and moving in the direction of manifesting your will and the opportunities that you have. It's just not an easy time; and sometimes- that's just how it is. Keep busy, focused and supported by the ones you love. Hang in there; the Tower may be collapsing, but you have a lot to do in your life. Even if there are times when all you manage to do is stay standing.
