This week's reading was done on The Wildwood Tarot. This deck and I have a complicated relationship. It came to me on the Summer Solstice when I spilled coffee by mistake on the deck of a person I knew. I bought them a new deck and inherited this one. It is a deck that likes to work with me- but does not like to work with tons of people. When I go to an event, I always put my hand over different decks to see if they want to come. The Wildwood Tarot is antisocial in this way, and almost always delivers a loud NO. Every now and then they allow me to bring them to an event, and when I do- one person will choose the deck who really needed to hear the particular message the deck delivers. I shuffled the cards and asked for a reading for someone who will see this post. I do not yet know who it is for. Read on and see if it's for you.
The reading begins with The Moon on Water, a card of dreaming and illusion. When we see this card, things are not always as they seem. The Moon looks distorted in the reflection of the water. It seems closer than it is and like you can reach out and touch it. When we see the Moon, things are obscured. But there tends to be a cycle or pattern to be found; it is not always as confusing as it appears to be. This is the card of dreams- and very often, our dreams need to be interpreted afterwards to understand the message. Things are shifting and changing; hold on for a Moon cycle and see what appears.
The Archer/Chariot is next, showing an Archer taking aim and shooting an arrow. This is a card of focus on larger goals and battles. It involves focusing your gaze on where you are going, preparing, and aiming perfectly. There is a larger goal that you are working on, and it is important that you keep your focus clear and calm. You have goals to accomplish- stay focused and clear. With The Archer, our goals may be about something other than ourselves. The battles that we fight are not always for us, and this card represents the heroic actions we take for others too.
The Five of Vessels/Cups shows you feeling like you are keeping up your dance in the middle of sadness and loss. You are in a state of mourning, and still need to move forward. If you stop dancing, you worry it will all fall apart. You are feeling loss and hope in equal measure. But you are disappointed in the way that something has turned out, and you are mourning the loss of how you thought things would be. Yet, you are still dancing. What else can you do?
The key is The Sun of Life, showing the message of taking in a life giving force. Where there is illusion, shine a light. The Sun is a card of clarity of purpose, happiness, and adventure. Absorb the energy of the Sun. Get your hands in the dirt and garden. Identify wild plants and stay connected with nature. Ask yourself- what gives you power and energy? And then move in that direction. The Sun scatters the shadows and makes everything clear and visible.
Here's what I see. If this is your reading, you feel like you can't trust the ground you are standing on. There may be some illusion, secrecy, and trickery involved. Even if you are already aware of that, it is important to wait a cycle to see what happens next. Things are quickly shifting and changing, and nothing is what it looks like. Be wise and discerning. Don't lose the focus that you have on goals. Keep the larger picture in mind even as you move through this confusing time. Come up with plans, focus your energy well, and aim your arrow. You may find yourself feeling a sense of loss right now, but you still have to dance. The key is staying happy and well. Flip the story and shine a light of truth where there is darkness, confusion, and obscurity. Be happy and well as a rebellion if you need to! You are in challenging times, and sometimes all you can do is keep up the dance and try to make clear what is not. Keep true to your goals, don't lose your focus, don't be tricked. Spend some time in the Sun and enjoy yourself, even if you are mourning what you had hoped would be.
